Plan a Bathroom Update or Remodel
A bathroom brief should explain the current room and the change you want. Replacing finishes, changing fixtures and reconfiguring the room are different conversations. Describe your goal before choosing a scope.
Details that help
- Tell us whether you want a focused update or a larger remodel.
- Describe the shower or tub, vanity, toilet, storage and finishes you want to keep or change.
- Explain any accessibility or everyday-use needs for discussion with a qualified provider.
- Include approximate dimensions, timing and whether another bathroom will remain available.
Document existing conditions
Safe, wide photos can help explain the room. Mention leaks, staining or other concerns you have observed without assuming the cause or extent. Photos cannot confirm plumbing condition, waterproofing, hidden damage or structural suitability. Those questions may require an on-site assessment.
Questions for the written proposal
Clarify demolition, disposal, plumbing and electrical work, surface preparation, waterproofing where relevant, ventilation, fixtures and finish repairs. Ask which products or allowances are included, who orders them, and what happens if hidden conditions change the work. Confirm permits, inspection responsibility, warranty terms and written approval of changes.
Before hiring
Compare a written scope, exclusions, payment milestones and change-order process. Ask who handles permits and relevant licensing or insurance checks. A directory listing is not proof of those qualifications. Use the estimate comparison checklist.
